Basic Neuropathology Course

As the well-established courses of Euro-CNS are tailored to for established neuropathologists and respective neuroscientists, a new approach to attract beginners in neuropathology has been implemented by organizing Basic Neuropathology Courses. These courses are held every 2 years at the Aachen Medical School and organized by the Euro-CNS Secretariat in Amsterdam in collaboration with Prof. Joachim Weis of the Aachen Medical School. The program covers the entire diagnostic spectrum of neuropathology in a condensed form, following the format of oral presentations and microscopic slide sessions, completed by macroscopic brain-cutting sessions, conducted by an international faculty and gross neuropathology. This would be the European equivalent to the legendary AFIP Course in Neuropathology, annually held in Washington DC for neuropathologists, who are often encouraged to attend by their senior institutional colleagues in neuropathology and other administrative superiors and allied neuroclinicians, the latter often before their specialty board examination. Thus, this “Basic Course in Neuropathology” should be attractive to trainees in neuropathology and those neuropathologists who did or do not have the benefit of structured neuropathological training for and in their professional neuropathological activities. The course is attended by participants from all over the world.

The first basic course was held from 10-14 March 2008. The home base for the course is the Institut für Neuropathologie, Universitätsklinikum der RWTH in Aachen, Germany. Subsequent courses were held in 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016.

The 5th Basic Course in Neuropathology was held in Aachen, Germany, from 15-18 March 2016. You can see the program details here.

The next basic course will be held from 13-16 March 2018 (Aachen). Information will be posted on this website in April.
